I’ve never been to the Florida Keys personally, but it’s on my bucket list for sure, which is what led to writing this Camping on Florida Keys Guide! Since there are so many Campgrounds on the Florida Keys- knowing what to expect and which options will suit your needs best is the very first step.
So, if you’re like me and finding campgrounds on the Florida Keys is something you are interested in, I highly recommend you read this guide and pin it for later!!!
It covers different options that offer RV camping, tenting, cabins and tiny houses at a Thousand Trails campground! Get ready to discover some great options.

State Park Campgrounds in Florida Keys
Bahia Honda State Park
Located at mile marker 37 in the Florida Keys, Bahia Honda State Park has become a favorite destination for camping on the Florida Keys! Encompassing 500+ acres and an offshore island this state park offers some of the best snorkeling and beachcombing for the whole family.
This park is well known for the beautiful ocean shores and sea breezes, perfect for nature lovers. They offer kayaks and snorkeling gear that you can rent and boat trips to the reef where you will go snorkeling to see the fish and coral!

For those who just want to relax and take a more calming approach, you can walk by the shoreline to observe the birds and just enjoy the beautiful views of the water.
The park is open daily from 8:00am until sunset and all visitors are required to pay the following entrance fees:
- $8.00* per vehicle. Limit 2-8 people per vehicle.
- $2.00* Pedestrians, bicyclists, extra passengers, passengers in vehicle with holder of Annual Individual Entrance Pass.
- $4.00* Single-occupant vehicle or motorcycle.

Camping on Florida Keys at Bahia Honda SP
Bahia Honda State Park offers a beautiful campground on the Florida Keys!
This campground offers three camping areas within the park borders with a total of about 80 sites. They offer a variety of camping sites for small tents to large RVs, they’re great for families, friends and couples. Rest rooms and hot showers are available onsite.
And a big plus for dog lover’s is that they’re also a dog friendly campground in the Florida Keys, that allows you to take your furry friend along for a good time… just make sure to have them on less than a 6ft leash at all times.
Buttonwood (sites #1-48) have a ton of camping sites which are gravel to make them more suitable for RVs or pop up, these are the largest sites in the campground. They all include electricity, water, a picnic table and grill. There is a bathhouse with hot showers and restrooms, this area also has a dumb station.
Bayside (sites #73-80) is smaller than Buttonwood with only eight sites, all of the sites at this campground are non-electric. All sites have a grill, water and a picnic table. There’s a small restroom nearby so if you want the bathhouse with hot showers you’ll have to take a half-mile trip to Buttonwood Campground.

Camping in the Florida Keys at Bahia Honda State Park runs about $36 per night, plus taxes. There is also a non-refundable $6.70 reservation fee. The price includes water and electricity.
Bahia Honda State Park Cabins
The Bahia Honda State Park campground on the Florida Keys also offers cabins for travelers not looking to bring their own RV or to rent one for this trip!
They offer three duplex cabins on stilts that overlook the bay. Every cabin includes kitchen appliances, utensils and linens. They include central heating and cooling, a living room with a sofa bed, two bedrooms, kitchen/dining room and a full bath! These cabins can accommodate at least 6 people. There’s also a picnic table and grill.
If you’re looking for a calm and fun campground to stay at Bahia Honda is the place to go!
Cabin rentals at Bahia Honda State Park depend on the season:
- May 1 – October 31: $120 night, plus tax, plus a non-refundable $6.70 reservation fee.
- November 1 – April 30: $160 per night, plus tax, plus a non-refundable $6.70 reservation fee. Includes water and electricity.

Long Key State Park
Long Key State Park also offers a campground on the Florida Keys for travelers looking to stay in their home on wheels! In the early 20th century it was a popular, luxury destination called Henry Flagler’s Long Key Fishing Camp alongside his railroad to Key West but it was destroyed by the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935.
Fortunately today it is an exquisite Florida State Park which they’ve built in its replacement and it now offers hiking, picnicking, kayaking, snorkeling, birding and fishing! Which is just the start you need for a fun family trip camping on the Florida Keys.
They also offer two fun hiking trails to explore. So you’ll have a chance to have an up close look at a variety of beautiful, multicolored plants and flowers. Not to mention the animal communities in the keys for the nature lovers in your group.
Bring along your own kayak or rent one for the day to paddle along the natural shoreline. You may even see a variety of wildlife among the mangroves or in the shallow clear waters as you flat through.
The park is open for day visitors from 8am until sunset and entrance fees are required:
- One person: $4.50.
- Two-plus people: $5 plus 50 cents per person.
- Pedestrians and bicyclists: $2.50 each.

Camping on Florida Keys at Long Key SP
The camp sites located in this campground sit along the Atlantic Ocean. This park’s primitive tents each have a picnic table, hammock stand and grill, but there are no electric or water hookups. They do however have restrooms with cold outdoor showers.
This campground allows well behaved pets, so don’t forget to bring them along for a fun time with you and your loved ones!
***The campground is closed for currently construction. Hike-in, tent-only campsites are still available. Check the website for up to date information on its reopening.

Curry Hammock State Park
Curry Hammock State Park is halfway between Key West that is a 1,000-acre and Key Largo. The park protects huge areas of beautiful mangrove swamps, rockland hammocks and seagrass beds that are essential to the Florida Keys ecosystem. Curry Hammock is the largest uninhabited parcel between Key Largo and Big Pine Key. It provides a campground for travelers as well as some onsite activities like the option to kayak and paddle board.

The sites at this campground are located by the Atlantic Ocean, and are open year-round. There’s a restroom with solar-powered hot showers and composting toilets, and all of the sites in this campground have gravel packing areas for RVs and cars.
There are also sandy areas for tents!
Sites include a charcoal grill, picnic table, water, electrical service and a dump station is also available for use by registered guests. The campground fills quickly in winter, so make your plans early.
Pets are welcome, but must be confined on a 6 ft leash.

National Park Camping in Florida Keys
Dry Tortugas National Park
Take a 2 hour and 15 minute boat ride to this popular tourist attraction called Dry Tortugas, which is well known as the home of the astounding Fort Jefferson a 19th-century military base that once served as a prison.
One of the nation’s largest 19th century forts in the United States, Dry Tortugas is a 100-square mile historic island with seven smaller islands around it. With a vast amount of fun activities for you, your family and friends to do such as swimming, boating, snorkeling, diving and camping!
Camping on Florida Keys at Dry Tortugas
Tents and a well planned visit are required for your stay here, to make your visit as pleasing and fun as possible. Campers must be totally self-sufficient, bringing in their own food and water.
While camping in the Florida Keys at the Dry Tortugas, you can enjoy a 1-3 night stay. Your stay here includes a picnic table and grill in a beautiful remote location for just $15 per night! Composting toilets are located in the campground.
If you love star gazing this will be perfect to experience it with your family and friends.
Transportation to and from the Dry Tortugas, for campers is limited to private vessels, daily commercial ferry, and permitted tour guides. Make sure to plan ahead! The ferry is limited to 10 camping passengers per day- so make your reservation months ahead of your actual trip.
Reservations are only accepted for the group site accommodating 10 – 20 people. All regular 6-person campsites are first-come first-served only.

Camping on Florida Keys at Leo’s Campground
With gravel sites this campground is great for RVs, this includes picnic table, water, electric, laundry room/bathhouse, sewer hookup and cable, there’s wifi hotspots throughout the entire campground.
They offer fun games for kids such as Jenga, Connect 4 and more, also a dog park so your pets can have a fun time too!
Boyds Campground in the Florida Keys
Take the last exit off of the Florida Turnpike to start your adventure camping in Key West Florida! Boyds Campground offers a variety of ways to stay including waterfront, dock-side, and inland RV Camping as well as tent sites with beautiful views of the water!
Guest will find much to do at this Key West campground!
