RV Kitchen Accessories: The Ultimate Guide

The Ultimate Guide to RV Kitchen Accessories!

RV kitchen accessories are the go-to gadgets full-time and part-time RVers need for life on the road. They usually serve dual purposes, fit in small spaces, and ensure life on the road is never lacking.

Coming from the mother of a family of 6, who’ve been workamping and RVing full-time for 6 years, I can honestly say I’ve learned some hard lessons on what RV kitchen accessories are needed for easy RV living. Thinking about it in this moment, we’ve gone from almost no kitchen, to half a kitchen to now having a full kitchen with just about every RV kitchen accessory I could even image.

12 RV Kitchen Accessories

Before we jump into the list of must have RV kitchen accessories, let me first say that like most things in an RV, each kitchen gadget or accessory needs to serve more than one purpose. RV’s have very limited space compare to homes or even apartments. So every inch should be utilized and maximized.

The RV kitchen accessories I’m listing here are my personal favorites. They are items I’ve used for my own family, things I have on my wish list (for when my current gadget gets trashed) and things that fellow RV friends have personally recommended and that I think you’ll enjoy!

Living in an RV requires you to be smart about your RV kitchen supplies. So, if you’re planning to take your RV out for the first time, or you are already traveling in your motorhome, be sure to shop for these RV Kitchen Accessories.

RV Kitchen Accessories: Berkey Water Filter

1. Berkey Water Filter

I love my Berkey! So naturally it’s the first item on my list of must have RV Kitchen Accessories, right?

A Berkey Water Filtration Systems are a must for RV travelers! You can’t trust the water source at every RV park or any RV park for that matter. Our family had one too many close calls with less than quality water coming from the faucet, so when we finally found this RVing gem… we latched on with not only the Travel Berkey model which sits on the island in our RV kitchen, but we also purchase the Berkey Water Bottles to carry with us on hikes and day trips!

What it boils down to is this… It’s just not as easy to get clean water in an RV, you really never know what the water supply will be like where you are visiting or if there will be a water line break… so you might as well make your own!

This water filter system is amazing and will save you tons of money by dropping the price per gallon to like $0.06!!!

RV Kitchen Accessories Everyday Egg Cooker

2. Everyday Egg Cooker

It was hard to choose my number two item by this little baby is so handy- it’s a great follow up for the Berkey! I love eggs. My family loves eggs. So having an egg maker where we can make our favorite kinds of eggs easily and on a daily basis is a necessity!

This mini egg cooker fits right on the counter and can cook 7 perfectly cooked eggs in less time than it takes to boil a small bot of water! Everyone can get a quick health breakfast any day of the week and we can make extras for salads and snacks in a tight pinch.

RV Kitchen Accessories: Instant Pot

3. Instant Pot

Next up is the one pot you need in your RV gadget toolbox– an Instant Pot

In my opinion, an instant pot is the only pot full-time RVer needs, but of course we have others to change it up every once in a while! It can literally do almost anything you need. You can cook rice, brown meat, cook a roast, make a quiche, cake and even cook dried beans in under an hour.

The Instant Pot is my go-to RV kitchen accessory for dinner time! It helps me avoid a lot of oven use, cuts down on stovetop dishes and saves all the propane for hot showers and heat! Definitely a must have!

RV Kitchen Accessories: Collapsible Storage Bowls

4. Collapsible Prep / Storage Bowls

As you can probably imagine the space saving feature of collapsible bowls, measuring spoons and prep containers are extremely useful!

I know what you’re thinking… why do I need collapsible containers if I can stack all my bowls together? Good question! The answer is obvious- collapsible containers allow for more space since bowls are always able to properly fit one inside the other. Both options can work great in an RV although one may be a little better.

RV Kitchen Accessories: Splatter Guard

5. The 3-Sided Splatter Guard

Do you RV full-time? Even if you don’t, you might spend a considerable amount of time in your RV kitchen. If that’s the case, you know how frustrating it can be to make delicious breakfast items like bacon- that tend to splatter!

Here is your perfect solution!

This 3 way splatter guard that will keep grease off the walls of your RV kitchen as well as the back wall! Grime and dust are not friends of RVers, so do yourself a favor and make sure your RV is free and clear of both!

RV Kitchen Accessories: Collapsible Dish Drying Rack

6. Collapsible Dish Drying Rack

Doing dishes in a small RV kitchen can really be an annoyance! I know personally there is just never enough room to wash and dry all the dishes my family seems to use after each meal. We end up with a towel on the counter and dishes both in the sink and waiting to be dried.

This roll up dish rack is a great alternative. It slips over the sink and you must place the wet dishes on top as you rinse them off. Dry them right from the top of the sink and forget about the towel on the counter all together!

7. Tension Rods

If you’re looking for a great RV kitchen solution that will help keep you organized and keep your dishes in place while you travel- this is it! These tension rods are the solution many RVers turn to, to avoid too much movement while driving down the road.

I learned the need for these kitchen tools the hard way, when all my glass storage containers broke during a bumpy ride along the Coastal Hwy! Since I didn’t have a tension rod to make sure the contents of the cabinet were secured, when I opened the door everything came crashing down onto the floor. What was left was a big mess and lots of glass to clean up!

RV Kitchen Accessories: Knives with Cover Sleeves

8. Knives with Cover Sleeves

Who doesn’t want sharp knives in their kitchen, RV or standard? I sure do! A sharp knife can make all the difference between enjoying meal prep and dreading it.

I went through a period of time, when I didn’t have any sharp knives in my RV kitchen- like at all! I was so nervous one of the kids would accidentally grab it, or just cut themselves while reaching past it.

Do you know how hard it is to cur things like steak, a block of cheese or even a loaf of French bread with a bitter knife???

Knives with cover/sleeves is the best idea for RVers as well as people with small children. These knives allow you keep quality stainless steel knives on hand without the worry of slicing a finger when reaching in the drawer.

RV Kitchen Accessories: Stainless Steel Wine Glasses

9. Stainless Steel Wine Glasses

The perfect shape and size for wine, these unbreakable cups can be used for coffee, tea, hot chocolate, juice as well as water. Great for adults as well as the kids- the only thing that would be better is if they stacked inside of each other…

RV Kitchen Accessories: Break-proof Plates

10. Break-proof Plates

I have 4 kids, so breakproof plates are definitely the way to go for us but work for all RVers in general. A few years back, we went with all plastic, which I hated. Then we went with glass plates, because they were pretty. After several mishaps, we’ve decided we will continue to acquire breakable products as needed- until all the glass, and ceramic dishes are gone!

RV Kitchen Accessories: Magnetic Knife Strips

11. Magnetic Spice Racks & Knife Strips

Another MUST have in the RV! These strong strips and sheets that you can easily attach to your RV kitchen walls, make room on your counter, in your cabinets, as well as your drawers- while keeping the kitchen tools you need for meals front and center.

RV Kitchen Accessories: Chalkboard Refrigerator

12. Chalkboard Refrigerator

It’s my firm belief, that every RV needs a chalkboard refrigerator in the kitchen. I can’t tell you how amazing it is for me to just write my grocery list on, make a quick menu for the day with our meals listed on it and just simple to do’s I need to take care of on mine.

Technically not an RV kitchen accessory, but definitely an RV kitchen necessity.

A chalkboard refrigerator can be easily painted in about an hour with $20 in supplies from the local paint store, Home Depot or Walmart or with a pre-made sticker like this one I found on Amazon.

Every RVer has their own favorite RV kitchen accessories.

RV Kitchen Accessories From Fellow RVers

The RV community is full of people from different backgrounds, with different opinions on just about everything from what is the best sewer hose to well… RV kitchen accessories.

We all have different ‘WHY’s” behind choosing this lifestyle, the site of RV we live in, where we travel to, when we go, what models are best and much, much more!

For that reason, I thought it would be fun to reach out to a few of my friends who also live in an RV full-time and see what they had to say on the topic! I asked them to give me their top RV kitchen accessory recommendation and to explain the reason behind it. Here’s what they had to say:

Exploring the Local Life: Robert & Jessica Meinhofer

RV Kitchen Accessories: Bialetti Moka Pot

My Favorite RV Kitchen Accessories: Bialetti Moka Pot

“Our number one RV kitchen accessory is our Bialetti Moka Pot. It keeps us from spending a ton on gourmet coffee and allows us to make amazing cappuccinos right in our tiny kitchen. It also takes up hardly any space and uses zero electricity. This makes dry camping way more enjoyable!! Gotta have that coffee to start our day off the right way!”

The Virtual Campground: Liz Wilcox

RV Kitchen Accessories: Magic Bullet

My Favorite RV Kitchen Accessories: Magic Bullet

“I love my Magic Bullet. It’s small enough to put in the cabinet and allows me to make smoothies super quickly…which is a great meal for a traveler following warm weather! I use it several times a day.”

RV Inspiration: Ashley Mann

RV Kitchen Accessories:
Mesh Liquor Bottle Sleeves

My Favorite RV Kitchen Accessories: Mesh Liquor Bottle Sleeves

“It’s hard to pick just one favorite kitchen accessory, but one item I’ve found particularly useful while RVing is mesh liquor bottle sleeves

These are used for packing liquor bottles during shipment to protect them from banging together, but you can buy them on Amazon.  I put them around the glassware in my cabinets (because I prefer to drink out of glass) and around glass bottles in my pantry (things like olive oil and soy sauce).  I also put them on my wine glasses I have hanging underneath a cabinet, and on my actual wine and liquor bottles!

They do a great job of protecting things from breaking!  Some people use socks for the same purpose, but personally I like being able to leave them on the bottles and keep them in a kitchen drawer when they’re not in use.”

The Wayward Home: Kristen Hanes

RV Kitchen Accessories: Pressure Cooker

My Favorite RV Kitchen Accessories: Stovetop Pressure Cooker

“I love my stovetop pressure cooker!

Not only does this pressure cooker not use AC power, it cooks food so fast it ends up saving a lot of money on propane. I can make everything from meatloaf and mashed potatoes, to chili and cornbread, all in the same pot. Bolognese sauce tastes like it simmered for hours rather than cooked for 15 minutes. I make steel cut oats in 8 minutes every morning.

I seriously couldn’t live without my pressure cooker, and use it 5-7 times per week.”

Streets Wander: Luann Street

RV Kitchen Accessories: Instant Pot

My Favorite RV Kitchen Accessories: Instant Pot

“My #1 RV Kitchen accessory is my Instant Pot!  I love my Instant Pot.  We cook everything in it.  Baby back ribs are especially delicious!

I love the fact that is a multi-use tool in my RV kitchen and saves on storage space.  It takes the place of a slow cooker, pressure cooker, rice cooker, steamer and yogurt maker (sounds intriguing – haven’t tried that yet!). You can even saute in it.  One-pot does it all!  LOVE IT!  This is one of 10 Must-Have Items for my RV Kitchen.”

Tips For Your RV Kitchen

Okay, so now you know what RV Kitchen Accessories are recommended, it’s time to think about how you’ll set up your kitchen for RV living! After all, an RV kitchen is like 10 times smaller than the typical kitchen, so you’ll need to do some prep work up front to make sure living in an RV is enjoyable.

And just to be clear… by enjoyable I mean easy to cook in and comfortable to spend time preparing your meals 3 time each day!!!

Limited space means you have to use the RV kitchen accessories you really enjoy!

6 Tips for RV Kitchen Success:

  • Think About Multiple Purposes:
Try to make sure everything you bring in your RV and your kitchen in particular can be used in more than one way or for more than one meal.
  • Use It Often:
Big items like Instant Pot cookers, blenders, crockpots and coffee makers need to be things you’ll use daily- maybe more than once. There is no sense in loading your RV up with big kitchen gadgets if you only use them every once and a while!
  • Easy To Clean:
Everything needs to be easy to clean! I can’t tell you how difficult it can be to clean large pots in a small sink. Consider this when you’re browsing the aisles looking for stock pots, juicers and big appliances like KitchenAid stand mixers! Think long term.
  • Can It Be Stored:
Again, back to the big items… one of the biggest considerations with big appliances is that they are sometimes too big to be stored easily in tight RV kitchen cabinets. For instance, my Instant Pot and Ninja Blender sit on my kitchen countertop all the time. It’s not ideal- but I use them daily and they really don’t store well in any of the cabinets.
  • Make Sure It’s Secure:
The ride might be super smooth, but I can guarantee you that something will shift, rattle or shake a long the way. Make sure your kitchen items are well secured by using non-slip liners in your cabinets and drawers to help keep your dishes, glasses and even items in your pantry in place while you drive.
  • Use Vertical Space:
RV kitchen cabinets aren’t usually big and beautiful. To be honest they’re usually brown, small and lack the needed space for all the food or kitchen tools you’d love to have. For this reason, you’ll want to make sure you’re utilizing the vertical space of the cabinets. Light weight shelving that nests or stacks is best. Also, try storing your dry goods in stackable square shaped containers to utilize every inch of storage available!
